I would have given this book four stars if not for the ending. When I bought the book I didn't open it so I didn't realize the whole book basically reads like evidence. I was pleasantly surprised by that. Halfway through the book I couldn't put it down. It was all going great. Until the ending. Which basically left me with zero answers. I don't want to give it one star because I was loving the book...but i hate crap, bullshit endings. So...the book gets three stars...the ending gets one. LOL.
I love to read. I've been doing it for just about my whole life. And I have absolutely loved and obsessed over many a book. But you'd be surprised as to how few books ( in comparison to how many books you've read) grip you and won't let go until you're done and then you sit there horrified that it is over and you need more you will quite frankly DIE if you don't get more. Was that dramatic enough? Because that's how this amazing book has me at the moment.
This book was a wild ride. From beginning to end. I mean that literally..by page 3 I was WHAT THE WHAT, by page 10 I knew I loved it and by the last sentence I was like AAAAAAHHHH!!
The main character is a princess assassin spy. What more could you possibly want???!! You animals.
If I could ever meet Kim Harrison, I'd hug her so hard LOL. Excellent, just like the ten before it.
I will not be finishing this. It ‘s boring. I was excited when I got it. I mean, Harry Houdini? Effin YAY! But Im on page 96 and I find myself pinching myself every few sentences just to stay awake. Not the book for me.
For me, the biggest honor I can give a book is giving it a place on my shelves. Not to knock ebooks..I have plenty of those and love being to take all the books with me when I head out. After having this series in its ebook counterpart, I'm so happy to finally have a hard copy. Why? Because I absolutely love this series/world. I love the steampunk elements. That's a genre I don't get enough of even though I do love it.
Xandra Varda is a member of the Royal Guard in a world full of humans, vampires, werewolves and goblins. Up until this point in her life everything was great. Not perfect..but great. Then something happens to her sister and everything goes tits up. She's about to find out what truths are lies. Even the ones about her. I like Xandra. I find her quite kick ass. (She fights in a corset!. It IS Victorian London after all). She had a touch for the melodramatic at times...which is a plus for me. “What have you brought us?” “Meat.” (Do let me know when you get to that part because I fooking LOVE it.)
I can't leave without talking about Vexation McLaughlin. Alpha werewolf extraordinaire. Does he have a big role in the book? No...but the book isn't about him. He can stand next to me and do nothing all bloody day. Is he delicious nonetheless? Yes ma'am. Is that all it takes for me? Apparently.
I loved every minute of this book. The story line, the works, Criminy Stain. Now I just have to wait until 2013 for some more......
Eight books in and this series and author still grabs me. Psychological thrillers at it's finest.
The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the repetitions finally got to me. Im well aware shes The Spider , and how she came to be. And everyones constant character and personality description. Its book 5.
Other than that, I did love the book.
