Why do I keep reading this series? The writing is awful and the story plodding. There's just enough of a story there and a guaranteed cliffhanger at the end of each volume that hooks me in to start the next one. This was vol 10 of 17 so....
I strongly recommend this for anyone working in a business with > 100 employees or so. Very insightful and thought provoking, touching on the topic of Emotional Intelligence and Team Building.
The story started out interesting but then turned into just another boring crime story. Could not force myself to finish this book.
Not a bad installment, added many interesting areas to the map, including the bottom of the canyon that surrounds the Sorcerer's Ring. On to book #9!
Although the language is R rated, it was a refreshingly new science fiction story, almost felt like science fact! Loved it, nice job.
This series remains consistently well-written and thought provoking, really enjoying this sequel series to The Lost Fleet. Humor plays a slightly larger role in this installment, found myself laughing out loud several times. On too book 4!
Wasn't going to do volume 6 but then the cliffhanger hit at the end of volume 5 and....
Moved the story along but the writing was a little off. Lots of characters “shrieking” and endless hyperbole, “More hyperbole than he'd ever used before.” Here's hoping volume 5 improves in this regard.
Great story showing a ton of imagination. Well written with believable characters and story lines.
Very good continuation of the story. Leaves you on a cliff hanger tho! On to book 3 pronto.
A fantastic start to a military science fiction epic series! I can see now why people are always recommending these books. Great writing, interesting characters.
Not a very interesting story, focused on two specific characters and their getting to know each other during their escapades. No sense of scope of the land, not very convincing description of the plight of the people, why these two guys should be considered heroes. Unfortunately I found it kind of boring, quite frankly.
That was a great book, very entertaining and interesting. The story seemed to wander at times until I remembered that this was a chronicle, not a story.
A mix of first contact, initial space travel and The Lost Fleet, although not as expansive. Very good pacing and story development. Left me wanting to get Book 2 ASAP.
This book is so chock-full of SciFi concepts - each one alone would be another author's seed idea to make into a novel. Here Bester, writing in the 50s mind you, introduces us to dozens perhaps hundreds of sci-fi tropes, many of which could be explored easily in a series of books based on this work. Amazing!
Best one in the series so far. Really found interesting the tie-in to Ireland lore, made perfect sense to tie Nita and Kit into this universe.
