Really great start to a story. Lots to dig into here. Love the art style and the talking fox alone sold me.
Chapter 34 alone is worth listening to the audiobook over reading it. Overall great book sci-fi spacey book with an intriguing mystery. Cant wait to jump into the 2nd book.
Strong start and finish but the middle was a bit to muddle through. Overall I think there are some good ideas presented in the novel but held back by the YA age range. I really was getting into the concept of the Reveries and the lore but then it pulls back on it to focus on interpersonal drama and romance. The ending felt a bit rushed but was still did a good job without leaving too many loose ends. Its a good story for anyone wanting a Scifi YA book but other than that it really doesn't bring anything new to the table.
Interesting concept for a book but it really dives in to the religious bits which isnt my cup of tea.
PIcked this as a recommendation as one of the “Must read Mangas” from the 2010s
This was an interesting concept but this volume was overall extremely repetitive and formulaic. There is an underlying mystery to the story but its really not explored. Also, this story has not aged well at all reading this in 2020. At face value, it is very comedic in tone but when the school starts pulling in extremely disturbed students to assist in assasinating the alien teacher, it hits way to close to home given recent headlines with violence in schools.
Im conflicted about how to rate this book. It has a very strong start however the last third of the book ruins a lot of the suspense and intrigue weaved. That's not to say it doesn't have a few twists here and there but over all the very predictable ending that anyone could see a mile away has knocked the rating down for me.
The story felt very slow and a bit contrived. The allure of it is loosely based on Greese wore off quickly after the first chapter.
This book was great! Part Pretty Little Liars and part crime documentary this book has a lot of twists and turns and will leave you wanting more at the end!
I was quiet surprised by this book. Its written in verse which at first was a turn off but it actually works well. The subject matter was interesting as well. Seeing the change of ZJs father through his eyes was scary and powerful at the same time.
While initially intriguing the novel devolves into common tropes and the reveal at the end was a bit lack luster.
Overall a great story with some moments that feel problematic but in the end it kind of works out.
Im really not a fan of how at the end Jude and Cardin are romantically involved. Considering the abuses that he put her through in the first half of the story. I like how she acknowledges that he is a way for her to gain power however it still feels a bit icky. I'm interested to see how the series plays out however as Jude seems to be a capable woman who will not put up with abuses of power so easily.
I really enjoyed the first half of the book and Wil's reflections on his past memoir. But the back half hasn't been as appealing to me. I think I will return to it later.
So tedius just to read through the little bit I did. It was too much work to even attempt to read it.
Overall its a OK book. Highly predictable story line, but the world the story lives in is a interesting one. If you are interested in a hybrid sci fi fantasy world and the possibilities of that you will enjoy it.
