While I enjoy stories of Walt and Henry having random shenanigans, this one was just underwhelming for me. The background spirituality usually has more impact and explanation incorporated, this one just brushed the surface. The physical aspects of the story were also a bit scattered, and honestly, boring.
Contains spoilers
This story is quite scattered, and the wide use of wealth to solve issues is a bit of a lazy trope.
This book has a fascinating take on the supernatural mythology of the world, so far. The characters are interesting, and the story moves at an adequate pace. It also doesn't try to force a lot of over the top sexuality or humor into the story, which is nice for a Kindle Unlimited series. I look forward to continuing my read of this series.
I have read all the Lucas, Letty, Virgil, and Kidd books by Sandford, and have enjoyed them all, including this one. However, it really feels like this book missed the mark for the normal suspense, excitement, and interesting characters. In my opinion even Lucas and Virgil were uninterested in the case, for the most part. Probably the least of the Prey Novels to date.
This book melds a fascinating set of circumstances in a science fiction story that has emotion, action, and drama aplenty. The flawed main protagonist shows growth, deterioration, and more growth in a different direction for his character.
Space battles, losses, gains, and adventure, this is a worthy beginning to a series that, if it maintains quality, will prove a fine read.
This book has excellent characters, excellent story, and is dynamic and interesting throughout. If you are looking for a science fiction novel to read, read this. It is books like this that make my subscription to Kindle Unlimited worthwhile, and I am looking forward to reading the remaining 3 in the omnibus.
Honestly, this is a rambling mess of random thoughts. This has no actual bearing on anything in the story other than a historical footnote at best.
As this author writes the stories become less fragmented and more enjoyable. This series is a good one to read, but I doubt it is one I will read again.
The second time through this book was even more spectacular than the first. This is a rich world Sanderson has built, I eagerly await books 3-10!
This book started with an interesting premise, but it took the whole book to develop anything, and even then it was underwhelming.
An interesting book, dealing with an old supernatural archetype in a way which I have never before seen. The main character is snatched from Earth after a few centuries of Subjugation by an alien species, taken along for a ride meeting another alien form which changes his outlook on many things.
Most original Vampire myth mixed with an excellently crafted Science Fiction tone.
The author of this book makes a big deal that it includes a “Reverse Harem”. That would be fine, if there was really anything else in the book. The supernatural part of the story is decent but it feels like it is only an excuse to write angsty relationship twaddle.
Timothy Zahn has again given the Star Wars universe another fantastic story. Thrawn is one of the most fascinating characters I have read. While he may be a “bad guy” Thrawn's motivations are easily understood, and to a point, acceptable. Now we finally have the story of Thrawn's early years with the Imperial Navy, from his home in exile to his promotion to Grand Admiral, and the wait was worth it.
I put this down after about reading 2/3 of the book. Each chapter feels like a slightly related short story to the previous, and the main character is not really one I can care about in any way.
This story is quite scattered, and the wide use of wealth to solve issues is a bit of a lazy trope.
Extremely wealthy and can buy anything.Falls in "love" after about 48hrs of spending time with a beautiful woman.Outsmarts dozens of mercenaries, and outswims SEALs.
While I cannot speak to the accuracy of the emotions portrayed by the soldiers in this book, I do think they encapsulate a stirring story. Humanity is starting to figure out how to defeat the enemy aliens which suddenly attacked humanity, and things are not going well. The wide cast of characters gives many points of view into a cohesive and well-balanced story worth reading. Any fan of Science Fiction or Military Fiction will likely enjoy the Blood Wars.
In the midst of all my other books, I had forgotten how much I enjoy this series. Lucas is, again, digging, thinking, driving towards finding answers to his question. The usage of interpersonal tactics and intelligence to solve a mystery is again well done by John Sandford. Again, Lucas has grown as a character through this book, adding to the growth from the brash young hothead in book one until now.
I will admit to be pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. Dr. Stone is a fine character and the mechanics of magic, as explained, are well done without being trite or overdone in anyway.
Jim Butcher has done it again, built a world of fantastic characters with a unique magic system. His characters come alive on the pages of the book and there are mysteries and histories which tantalizingly make one eager for the next volume.
While this series is entertaining to a point the suspension of disbelief is extremely high. Fun, simple story, plenty of irrelevancies, and holes in the plot but worth a read if you have a few hours to waste on a candy book.
As with all of Sandford's novels, I enjoyed it. His story lines are complex, fun, and well thought out. Granted there is always the required suspension of disbelief but what good novel doesn't have that?
Davenport's character keeps growing in new a different ways, which is for me, quite a unique experience. Anyone who is looking for an exciting thriller series should seriously consider reading all of these books.
This story has an interesting premise about reanimating Special Operations soldiers for a war with the enemy. However, I found the way they played it out to be a bit underwhelming, and there are many characters surrounding the main protagonist who seem incredibly mono-dimensional. Not bad, but not great. I will not be continuing the series.
A third of this book was fantastic, two thirds was Anita dealing with her dysfunctional relationships. As always the non-relationship parts of the book are interesting and fun, the other part however. While Hamilton writes a good story, in an interesting take on the supernatural world, perhaps a little less relationship horse crap would be appreciated. Kill Asher already.
As always Butcher has written a brilliant story with his cast of grand characters. Parkour!
