I loved the first book in this series, but this one just didn't do it for me.
I think I liked the few mentions of Hayes more then Joshua throughout the book lol
Anyway, i shouldn've just dnfd this when I lost interest. I didn't care about the characters at all, and they barely had any tension and angst, for the fact that she is his brother's girlfriend. I was expecting SOME level of taboo, but this was very insta love.
Also, the book has a segment with a lot of unnecessary misunderstandings that really frustrated me and overall I did not root for this couple.
Also, one of the things I loved most about the first book was the amazing banter between the characters, and this didn't even come close.
I will say I loved the vacay vibes and the Hawaii settings, though.
I'm still intrigued by Ben's appearence and would be interested to read the next book, bit this just wasn't it.
Let me start by saying, wow, the concept in itself is 5 stars. The first half of the book is 5 stars.
However the second part of the book kind of fell apart for me a little bit. The plot twist was ridiculously predictable. And there were quite a few inconsistencies and mistakes that i found.
Still would recommend this tho. Such a unique setting and we'll executed.
This is my fourth book from Lucinda Berry, and just like her other ones, i thoroughly enjoyed reading this. I was hooked from beginning to end, and i know people are are complaining about the ending being rushed, but this is actually the best ending I've read from her so far lol
As usual, Lucinda Berry is excellent with writing the themes of women struggling with their teenage sons, and this time there was 3 families to keep up with, which was a little bit challenging but it worked. I loved reading the domestic abuse storyline too, I think that was done really well.
Also as per usual, she makes her stories so gut wrenchingly emotional and her characters so easy to relate and sympathise with.
Oh my god.
I've read Debt, and it's definitely one of the best dark romances I've read, but this one is a whole other thing.
The characters are so, so real. So well developed. The pain they face, the loneliness, it's devastating to read about. It reached me.
Yes, the main character is a rapist, and this book plays with your mind that way. The entire time my mind was at conflict, because on one hand, he's a ruthless monster and on the other you get to see why. He's very clear in expressing his feelings. It leaves you unsure of whether you are rooting for this guy or hate him. It's this morally grey aspect that is done extremely well in this book that I enjoyed so much.
I was never bored throughout. The plot was fast, but also slow when required to build the characters' trauma.
I had a great experience with this book. It's definitely gonna stay with me for a long time.
I know this book has a very vague TW but just be careful for SA and self harm.
It was a fun read, I've never read any form of cosmic horror before so it was a nice introduction into it for me.
It was so strange ever since the beginning and i loved trying to wrap my head around what the hell was happening and for a book this tiny, it packed in a punch.
This is EXACTLY what I wanted from Priest, the first book in the series.
I haven't stopped thinking about this since I read it.
Aiden and Elijah's characters were built well, and their connection felt very real. I absolutely enjoyed the tension in this book, and the angst between the characters, and the fact that Aiden literally locks his dick in a cage because he's THAT determined to be celibate. It was absolutely iconic.
I enjoyed her writing too, it was rich and beautiful.
Bunny was one of my favourites of last year, and this one did not disappoint.
I'm genuinely so fascinated with the author's mind, it's amazing what she can come up with and write it so beautifully. I enjoyed drowning in the weird fever dream that this was. I think this is being made into a movie and I cannot imagine how amazing the visuals will be.
I will say it took some time to pick up for me, but once I got into it, i absolutely devoured it. I love the ambiguous style of her storytelling and how there are some things that will just never make sense.
Needless to say I will be reading every book the author decides to put out, ever.
I feel weird rating a classic, I'm just rating my enjoyment level with this book lol because it was entertaining
And it's nice to finally be able to tell people “ACTUALLY i have read Romeo and Juliet and it's not what you think it is” haha
I loved this so much. This is definitely unlike anything I've ever read before, and I'm so glad I chose to pick it up.
The writing was so beautiful. I loved the concept of it all, being set in the deep sea. I loved how scientific it was, all the jargon, I loved reading it all. I loved how the author discusses not only just the presence of mermaids, but also scientific discussion of their anatomy and the adaptations that allows them to survive in the deep sea.
The plot overall was very slow, and i definitely took my time to read this, but it picked up it's pace at the end. It turned into more of a horror. So that was fun.
The characters, I was unsure of so many characters being involved because I usually don't like that but this worked. I loved the characters too.
Overall amazing read.
Reread after 4 years, this book still gives me the flutters, the sparks flying off of the page. Such a cute and wholesome book that will be my comfort read.
Sure it's a little bit cliche, of course everything turns out okay, and of course the entire world just accepts them for who the are, but I think that's the beauty of this book. Its so comforting to know that nothing will go wrong and that everything will be okay no matter what.
This book has the most adorable cast of side characters ever.
And obviously, Alex and Henry. I love Alex because he's that one friend who will never fail to make you smile, and Henry has so much love to give.
If you need a cute ‘us against the world' gay story, this is absolutely it.
Sucked me in from the very first page and from there on, I couldn't put it down at all. The writing is smooth as butter.
The cast of characters was small and cozy, there is a small town setting, multiple pov and dual timeline, and it all WORKED.
Also any time there is an angsty hormonal teenage boy in my thrillers I eat it up, so this was right up my alley.
Gillian Flynn spun such a good tale with this one.
I absolutely loved everything about it.
It's obviously hard to review a memoir ish book like this, but I can only comment on the writing style and what I took home from this.
I absolutely loved reading this book. This is written with so much empathy and so much emotion. Dr.Marsh goes into very vivid detail about what it is like to be doing all these extremely challenging operations.
I cannot imagine what it is like to tell an entire family that their loved one is going to die. Massive respect to all doctors and surgeons.
This is written in a very humane way with the author expressing all their successes and failures alike with a lot of emotion.
A must read for any aspiring surgeons, or to anyone who wants to know what it is like to be a neurosurgeon.
I don't love this as much as I love For The Fans or Double Edged, but I still enjoyed this.
Maybe it's just me but I just didn't love Ben, Ryan and Jess as much as I was expecting to. My favourite character is probably Hailey she is so cool with everything lol
This type of writing style is not really for me, I was invested in the characters though
Now I'm not Christian at all, so I can't say anything about the religious parts of this book, but i would say, the smut especially at the beginning, was fabulous. At the very beginning, i got to read what i was here for - the sexual tension that is not allowed.
But from there unfortunately, everything went downhill. Tyler Bell literally felt like a horny college character. And i never came to like Poppy at all.
I didn't understand their love at all. They claimed to have chemistry, yes, they had some great sex, yes, but overall, nothing much about their character was built.
I think i like the IDEA of this book more than the book itself. I might read the third one in this series, I'm pretty sure it's a gay romance. Otherwise, pretty bland, coming from someone who reads a lot of ‘no plot just hot' books.
I would say this is actually pretty good for an extreme horror. Better than the two other books from this author that I have read, The Slob and Dark Assembly.
The author did a great job with all the character distinctions, because there are 9 children, 4 parents, and 3 more characters, who are all central to the story. Having that many characters always overwhelms me, but they were very clear in my head.
The plot was well done too, it was fast paced, very bingeable, I finished this in a couple hours actually. I always love the added effects of the artwork, it definitely alleviates the experience.
The shock value of the book for me was probably 7/10. It could've been much much worse, especially with children involved, but it was okay. I'd like to make it clear that the horror is derived from the actual gore of the deaths and not the grief of losing the children or any of the consequences.
In short, this book is like a Saw movie but with children and it's being broadcasted for the parents to watch and it's run by a horny old woman.
A few plot holes here and there, but nothing too bad, nothing too ridiculous. I would've loved an epilogue though.
Such a strange little book.
Beautifully well written, fast paced, intriguing and enjoyable.
I had a lot of fun reading it, id personally describe this as a magical realism with strong mystery elements, so if that sounds good, pick this up.
This is definitely one of the most emotionally complex stories I have ever read, definitely my favourite book from Novoneel Chakraborty. I love how well the characters are built, especially Vanav, the depth of his pain was fascinating to read about.
So many plot twists, it kept me at the edge of my seat. It also did a great job of keeping me emotionally invested.
This author is probably the only Indian author I've read who goes to this level of dark.
I would've given this a 5 stars if not for a few loose ends that I'm bothered by. A few contradictions, a few questions, a few things that don't make sense but overall it's a fantastic story.
My favourite part of the author's writing is probably the feminist commentary throughout. Definitely not in-your-face, but it's there. The writing was also very witty, I was highlighting quite a lot.
I'll definitely be reading every book the author publishes.
