For me personally, erotic horror is my absolute favourite sub genre of horror, so I really loved reading these stories. Some of these were really good. The last one, called The Extra Mile was my favourite, it made me feel actual physical dread.
Loved this and would definitely recommend.
Super fast paced, devoured this one almost entirely in one sitting! The chemistry between Kyran and Silvano was SIZZLING, probably some of the best enemies energy I've gotten in a while. And i mean, these two casually plot each other's murder, multiple times, before deciding “eh maybe I'd rather not” it was so fun to read.
I wish the ending was more satisfying though, I feel like I've been dropped off the middle, probably could've been wrapped up a little better.
A sweet, low angst, predictable romance, which I was glad about, given the... experience that the previous book in this series was. I happily flew through this one. Hawthorne is such a sweetie and I have a special place in my heart for sex worker characters and so I loved Mateo too.
I also enjoyed the family aspect of this series and would love to step into this world again.
I'll admit this took a while to grow on me, but eventually I loved these two and was rooting for their happily ever after. Cute and low angst best friends story doesn't get any better than this!
Definitely one of the best short story collections I've read. The author has such a skill with really building a complex narrative around each character in such a short amount of time.
I enjoyed the first few stories a lot, but I think the last few were mediocre.
Still had a great time with these!
This was such an instant 5 star read for me... I know this is a book that will not leave me for a long time. Its insane how attached to these characters I feel, the connection that was built is so, so beautiful.
I loved that this book is narrated by Giovanni himself, unlike the first book, because you get the see it from his perspective, and how broken and damaged he is. You get to witness how much these two love each other albeit in a slightly weird unconventional way. And then Silvio and his involvement, so well done.
The sex in this book was fantastic. 10/10. Scenes that I've never read about before and they were done amazingly well too. I also loved how the book takes time to explain to us how important it was for Giovanni to reclaim his sexuality, and how the sex was also an integral part of his healing journey.
Also I was a sobbing mess in the end how could you do that to me
I feel like I kept waiting for this to get better when I should've just DNF'd. The story starts off with an incredibly rushed insta love romance between Kane and Jaxon, and the spice picked up way too early before the story was ready for it. I feel like i needed to know the characters more and the backstory needed to be developed more before the non stop sex. It just felt very meaningless.
Also every person has a nickname for every other person and i did not have the patience to remember each one, especially when i barely cared for the characters. Elijah and Jaxon read like the same character, i felt like they were not distinguished.
Blaze is depicted with having lots of mental health struggles and also suicidal thoughts and murderous thoughts, and i hate that the characters never even once consider therapy for him. I personally hate when a book ends with dick being the ultimate cure for all mental health problems.
Also this may be just me but god I was actually cringing at multiple points
I had a great time with the first half of this book, watching Zev in his cycles of drug abuse and harming himself and the unaddressed trauma. I think it was written very well and brought me very close to the character.
Enter Black Diamond Resort and Spa, obviously the highlight of this series, I loved the therapy scenes.
It all went downhill for me from there, unfortunately. Firstly I was unable to grasp the fact that his dad, who I'm positive knows Zev is gay, sends him to an island with a gay married bodyguard. Gavin has been with his husband for A DECADE, and i felt uncomfortable with the cheating in this book too.
I remember this one point in the book where Gavin is breaking up with his husband and he says, “I just couldn't resist him”
IMAGINE YOUR PARTNER OF 10 YEARS SAYING THAT.
I don't care what the conditions were, it just feels wrong.
Spice wasn't my favourite, but it was fine.
The DD/lb dynamic was okay, true to what you'd expect. I just don't think it was for me, although I have enjoyed age gap MM before.
I would be interested to check out this author's other works but this one's a maybe for me.
I have enjoyed Andi Jaxon's work before, which is why I was disappointed in this one.
The romance here isn't all that bad, Eli and Asher made such a cute couple.
The problem I had was with the way their trauma was handled. I was uncomfortable with the way Asher kept invading Eli's space when he was extremely vulnerable and clearly wanted to be left alone. Also with talks of self harm, I really don't think it was handled as delicately as with some of Andi Jaxon's other books.
Plotless story of a privileged girl pushing every limit because she can.
Entertaining for sure
This is a thriller about a woman who fainted on her wedding day and she doesn't really remember exactly what happened. 10 years later, on her anniversary, weird things begin to happen.
And very conveniently, everything just comes back to her. Randomly, 10 years later, her memory just conveniently comes back. It just feels a little lazy to me.
I will say though, i enjoyed the simplistic writing, it's very easy to get into. The British setting was fun, and also the protagonist had a great voice. She felt like a very realistic character, easy to relate to, and likeable.
There was probably 1 or 2 plot twists, but overall this was a pretty bland, straightforward, predictable thriller. If you read a lot of thrillers you will be bored, but if you're a beginner thriller reader, this might be a good fast paced book.
So this definitely wasn't as good as the first book, if you're looking for something similar to that, this isn't it.
It was more light-hearted, funny, emotional in some ways. I found this was messier, though. It was very repetitive with ‘youre mine, forever, you're it' and also the fact that Brendon is a foodie, him constantly demanding for food, a little too much, in my opinion.
I love the characters but this was a case of them bleeding into each other for me. I feel like they had pretty distinguished characters when we started but they started sounding really similar at the end, I had to constantly check whose perspective I was reading.
A few plot lines, especially with Nikki I was really wondering where it was headed. It just went nowhere.
I did enjoy other parts of this, i just wanted more.
I have a feeling the next book is going to be about Carp and Nick, I can't wait for that
Pretty average.
I could definitely see the plot coming, so there was no shockers there.
But still, since this is a slasher, it did have a lot of unhinged (quite literally) scenes in between and those were unique.
I still think I'll just stick to reading Jon Athan's more adult themed books though.
Really solid beginning, caught my attention and held my intrigue. I really liked how conceptual everything was , and the idea of thought sharks is so brilliant. However, towards the ending, the story headed towards a romance, and did concentrate a lot on the romance plot. Which i thought was weird. And the whole conceptual thing fell apart a little for me, things went all over the place.
Still, one of the most unique books I've read and i enjoyed the experience of it.
This was so weird, but in a great way. I love books where the plot is not exactly laid out to you, and so you get to put the pieces together yourself, while also not being too ambiguous. That's what this book felt like to me.
Like someone else already mentioned, this does place an unnecessary importance to Isserly's boobs, but that was probably the only thing I can say I didn't like about this book.
There are so many themes of rape, sexism, elitism, big business, farming, and what it means to be human. They're all discussed in very subtle ways.
I found the writing style to be quite beautiful too.
Overall I had a great experience reading this book, and it makes me want to read more sci-fi.
We used to lie awake at night, curved to each other like parentheses
A very dark revenge-against-the-mafia romance, executed so well.
I'm convinced whatever Laura Lascarso touches, she turns to gold.
(Would've loved slightly more spice though)
Every once in a while I need a sweet tender romance to remind me of this feeling again. I can't believe this author hasn't been picked up by a traditional publisher yet, this is such beautiful writing.
I absolutely fell in love with both these characters, especially love how Ellis' character was brought to life. I loved all the side characters too.
I had a smile on my face the whole time I was reading this. Except the part where I was crying of course.
My best book of pride month 2024.
For how much this book is paraded as an erotica, I don't think it is all that erotic at all
Also i literally threw this book across my room when i finished it. Make of that what you will.
Reading this was definitely an experience.
There is a major plot twist in this book, and before I found out about that (at, like, the 400 page mark or something) I was extremely frustrated with Lance's character and how he was behaving because there was nothing to justify it. I love Tate, he's absolutely one of my favourite characters from Nyla, but Lance I was struggling to like.
With the plot twist it does make sense, and that is what helped me wrap this book up on good terms.
So yeah, overall i ended up enjoying it.
And of course, flaming hot sex. I did not expect to enjoy the whole second chance romance thing because I usually don't find a lot of tension in that trope, but with Lance and Tate, there absolutely was.
Also I love reading the author's notes at the end and watching her gush over her own characters like she's not the one who made them lol, it's adorable how passionate she is, and I love it.
This to me felt more like an accompanying novella to nightingale, than a romance in and of itself, if that makes sense. I felt like the priority of the story was just additional context than the romance between these two characters.
Bayani definitely had enough complexity to make a full length book for himself, and i feel like that would have been better. He reminded me a lot of Giovanni from the same author. Felt like a lot of wasted potential.
Also I just didn't enjoy the third person pov narration. Usually I don't mind but this one I particularly didn't like the pov.
