Food, love and family. Sounds scrumptious and indeed some of the writing is lyrical and I can appreciate the taste of the phrasing.
BUT....
Ms. Sunee appears to be a hot mess who never finds happiness during the book and presumably long after the book was written if ever. Again some of the writing is magical but I'm left feeling like I am hungry but can't eat because of an overdrawn bellyache that no attempt at soothing will ever cure.
Journalist hired to debunk Philadelphia's mediums in post Civil War 1869 discovers the best medium to murder mediums.
All is not as it appears to be as you'll soon discover in this thrilling, chilling, story by Alan Finn.
Philadelphia 1869. Mediums abound after the Civil War has run its course. Most of them are charlatans some of them aren't. Lenora Pastor is the real thing but someone doesn't want the dead to tell tales to the living.
This is not a gore fest by any means but I found myself checking over my shoulder a couple of times when reading this...and there might have been a light left on overnight...by accident of course. You'll enjoy the case of the heebie jeebies you'll get from this tight tale.

I was reluctant to start this book because I had just finished another big book that left me less than happy. I'm glad I hung in there though as Ms. Harkness's book was quite satisfying. There were a couple of things that kept me from enjoying the book completely though.
Sometimes the characters got so involved in what the wine smelled like that felt a bit like “oeninism” - pun intended - In reading the back flap I found that Ms. Harkness also writes a popular blog about wine - so I cut her some slack.
Overall a rollicking good read although it does take some time to discover that this book tastes less like rocks and more like honey.
Self serving, juvenile drivel with a few sparse indications of writing ability thrown in.
The main message appears to be anybody can do anything if they are as motivated as Mr. Shepard is.
However the secondary message comes across to me as, I'm on a great adventure, pretending to be homeless, sucking up services that others could legitimately use aren't I grand!
Skip this book.
Flavia is initiated into the real family business.
While I've always liked the Flavia books this one really hits it out of the park! Flavia is growing up and the author is growing too. This sixth book in the series goes somewhere just a little bit beyond words. Yes we still have the humor and the good story telling but this time the tale is nuanced and a pure delight to read.
Thank you Mr. Bradly for an excellent romp and read all wrapped up in a shroud of grief.
Non-fiction book about one woman's year long journey into creating her own reality. Mostly a good book although some of the folks she quoted I resonated with more than the author. One quote in particular was delightful and I paraphrase...“How can you open yourself to abundance if your heart is closed tight like a fist?” Again, I'm not looking at the book so the quote is probably just close but I love the lesson.
If you believe in creating your own reality this is a quite good reference.
