Not bad for a debut novel, the characters need more development and the story has too much exposition at the end for my taste. Still not as bad as Scott said, I look forward to read newer books of the author
One of my favorite Sci-Fi books ever, The Martian Chronicles is a collection of short stories that take place in Earth and Mars. They tell us about the rise and fall of civilisations, of how society could respond to encounters with beings that, albeit extraterrestrial, they're not really that different from us. Love, yearning, hope, despair, you can find everything and more between these pages.
I know that Michael Crichton was pressured into writing this book due to the huge success of the Jurassic Park movie. Now, why in the world did they force them to write it if they only took literally one scene from the entire book for the second movie?? And Sarah's character was such a badass, she was totally toned down for the movie >:(
Cormoran Strike is a private investigator hired to find the truth behind the suicide of the most famous top model of England. I don't want to say much about the plot, but I'll say that along the way he'll discover that things are not always what they seem.
It's an incredible book with amazingly written characters, you can feel their struggles in every single page. I hate paper cut characters, but these show to be very profund and complex human beings.
It has no relation whatsoever with the Harry Potter universe and it's very refeshing to read such a realistic thriller from J.K. Rowling
I felt like nothing happened. It was the second book all over, but Tally is now special instead of pretty.
All in all, lo disfruté.
It's a nice enough book for people who were born in the ‘70. The whole book is nothing but an homage to the 1980s and since I was born in 1988, most of the references got lost on me. I had to google most of the characters named and I haven't played any of the games that are played during the book and I only saw 2 of the movies mentioned. All in all, it's not a bad book, but the target audience is too limited.
I wasn't sure about this book because I'm not really a fan of Stephen King (don't kill me, please!!) and I didn't know how much of his dad's style would be on Hill's novel, however I was pleasantly surprised.
The fast-paced rhythm and originality of the story got me hooked from start to end. I didn't find it as terrorising as they told me it would be, but maybe because I was expecting to be scared every moment.
I still recommend it to any fan of suspense!
Where can I start with this book? I'll admit I saw the movie about 10 times before I even knew the book existed (shame on me!) but the depth of the characters goes far beyond what the movie shows. It really made me contemplate capitalism, religion and society in general from a completely different point of view. Fortunately, I'm an only child and not a middle child, otherwise I would've ended a bit traumatized!
Regardless the plot, I can't say that there's much difference with the movie, but you can enjoy both very much, even if you know how the story ends.
Fun read, but the most unrealistic part of it is that 2 super close we-tell-everything-to-each-other best friends didn't know that the other one was gay
Big Mushy Happy Lump is the second comic collection from Sarah's Scribbles. They tell, with a humorous note, the daily struggles of a nerdy girl, a bit on the socially awkward side. Sarah is someone I can almost completly relate with in many levels, from her passion for books to the love/hate relationship with fashion.
The only thing I can object regarding this book is that it's too short!
I don't usually write reviews of my books, but when I do, I do it as a warning for future readers. I was looking to read an espionage novel, this one was tagged as espionage. It is not an espionage novel.
Barry Eisler is the best sniper that ever snipped ever. Sorry, I mean Carl “Dox” Williams, because the main character is totally NOT a self-insertion of the author. The perfect Barry- sorry, Dox, is not only the best sniper, but he's also good-looking, charming, and funny, women love him and men want to be like him. He's a loose cannon but the Marines and CIA admire him so much that they still hire him for missions. He exudes “big dick” energy Spoilerand we will find out during a graphic sex scene that the author the protagonist has, in fact, a big dick.
But Dox Eisler is not perfect, his biggest flaw is that it takes him 40% of the book to get inserted into the plot. So if you were looking for an espionage novel, know that for almost half of it, you'll be reading family drama with occasional chapters of evil people doing evil things.
In Dox's next mission, he will have to work alongside a villainous foreigner named Joko. He's evil because he's not American and he's also evil. He loves to do evil things because he's the villain and he's evil. That's his entire personality.
We also have Female Protagonist who's perfect. She's beautiful, smart, has a great body and personality Spoilerand, obviously, she falls in love with Male Protagonist at first sight.
Some cool stuff does happen and the book will actually be entertaining, but only about 30% of it.
