Supremely enjoyable. I'm not fully up on my classics/scripture so some of the play Daniel does is difficult for me to engage with, but otherwise this work sings. I've been reading and listening to his work for awhile and for me this represents a highlight in the genre of memoir and cultural commentary regarding the queer and trans experience. It's also funny and beautiful as hell.
A nauseating masterpiece on the level of The Girl Next Door. Rich in setting and period detail - this novel glows with the warmth of summer in the 70s - and psychological depth. A horrific event is examined from every possible angle, in slow motion. Long out of print, this book is being done a phenomenal service by Valancourt/Paperbacks from Hell, with a perfectly executed reissue including an introduction from paperback horror champion Grady Hendrix. This is a must purchase for some readers, and deserves the resurgence it will hopefully receive. But know going in that it's grotesque nature isn't for everybody.
A whirlpool so insidious and horrible that you don't know you're in it's grasp until you're under the surface already.
Easily the scariest and most horrific haunted house story I've encountered. It deserves a resurgence in popularity. This is why I read horror fiction - human stories, with layers of terror and irony that creep up on you. The Shining by way of Steel Magnolias.
