This went up a notch big time from the last volume. Volume 1 was intriguing and sprinkled enough info to hook you. In Vol 2, we get to know the details leading up to the arrangement and how things are going in present day. These two are very much strangers and are getting to learn who they are as individuals and as a couple.
It was a good time.
This was not for me. It tried to converge or show a correlation between the events that took place in Mind of My Mind and Clay's Ark that has led to the events in Survivor. Basically, Survivor is the result of what took place in the previous two books. I found the story to be very slow and I don't want to say boring but it lulled me to sleep so many times.
I'm not rating this because Octavia E Butler didn't even want this published and yet it was against her own wishes and reasons for it. It felt like a good first draft that needed to be fleshed out.

This was incredibly sweet and for me, the best one so far.
This series is incredibly vanilla so the parental advisement is irking me seeing as how the only publications carrying the warning are lgbtqia+ publications. Please note, these are grown folks. They are 30+. I don't think they even kissed until volume 3. (I can't remember)
This is the first volume where both characters are just raw with emotions and are so incredibly honest with one another. The emotions throughout the book just bled off the pages. They've taken the first 5 volumes to get to know one another but both have tiptoed around one another not wanting to offend or to push too much. In this volume, they are partners, and as such have started to realize they must make joint decisions based on respect and honesty if they want to make things work moving forward.
It was perfection for me.
